So last night the wife and I watched the movie Surrogates. It was pretty awesome. In the movie, everyone lives their lives through a neuro connection to a robot. Bruce Willis plays a cop, who is investigating a murder and decides to leave his home for the first time in many years because he lives his life through a “Surrogate” robot.
In one of the scenes, you see a room of people in the “Surrogate Chair” and on a big screen you see a battle. In the battle, plain looking surrogates are running around and you see one of them get shot. When it happens the person sits up out of the chair, unharmed, and prepares for another surrogate to enter the battle field and be connected to his chair. It was amazing. My wife (The Uber Wifey) asked me if I thought that it was possible. To which I said overwhelmingly yes. Think about it, they sit in comfortable chairs, and if they die they wait for a new surrogate to, dare I say, respawn. Sounds alot like video games. Right now there is a $127 BILLION project called “The Future Combat Systems project” and it is the biggest military contract in American history. According to The Pentagon, “Robots will be a major fighting force in the American military in less than a decade. I think this is awesome and a great way to protect our soldiers. My little brother is a Crew Chief on the Osprey, one of the newest aircraft out there. I looked into the Osprey a little and found this Video. In the video, you can see that the “belly gun”, is run by a PS3 controller. In other words, its already on the way.
