You Tube is dropping IE6 Support Next Month

IE6_Funeral

For those of you still using IE, let alone IE6, the time has finally come to get a real browser. March 13, 2010, the day YouTube will no longer officially support IE6. Burried deep in a Youtube help item in regards to browser support, under the header “When does older browser support end for YouTube and what does this mean?”. The answer says “Support stops on March 13th. Stopped support essentially means that some future features on YouTube will be rolled out that won’t work in older browsers.” The answer also details that Google’s YouTube will notify site visitors of this by displaying a message, until the user upgrades in place of the video the user is trying to watch. “On March 13, we are dropping support for your browser. You’ll still be able to watch videos after that date, but new features may not work properly” it will prompt for a time up until that fateful day.

This should not come as a surprise, we already are aware that March 1, Google will phase out support for IE6 in Google Docs and Google’s Site. They are not alone in this, various other sites, and governments have taken a stand against the browser due to recent events and overall security risks. I personally am very glad they are doing this, it is time for people to move to Firefox, Chrome, Safari, hell even Opera, ANYTHING BUT IE.

Firefox Vs. Chrome: Which is better?

Chrome Vs. Firefox

Chrome Vs. Firefox

So a bunch of folks have asked me which browser to use. Should it be IE, or Firefox, or Chrome? Well Considering right away that Internet Explorer is crap, lets move on to the two others. Personally, I use both. I think that Chrome is much faster that Firefox. This is probably because its JavaScript Virtual Machine named V8. Chrome claims to be more stable, personally I think that Firefox is probably more stable. Chrome is pretty easy to use, the tools are pretty easy to find and its got that uncluttered look to it. I like that sleek look, but I cannot help but think that Firefox is the better browser.

Firefox has more toys, period. The tools bars you can get for Firefox are amazing. From stumble upon, to Seesmic. I also believe that Firefox is more secure and let me tell you why. Google is great and they make great stuff, but I think they will have trouble catching up to the development community centered around Firefox. Basically Firefox beat them to the punch. Both are open source which is awesome, but I think that Firefox has just built a community around development for several years and that will take time to match or beat. There are so many tools and toys for Firefox that make your browsing experience better I think that hands down they have Chrome beat. However the user stats on usage of Chrome have skyrocketed in the last several months.

I am very interested in knowing what you think. Leave me a comment and tell me which you think is better!
