The HTC Desire

Being that HTC was the company that brought us the nexus one, it was only to be expected that they would pop out a whole slew of new Android Phones. At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, HTC has announced several new Android mobile phones, and they are pretty cool. Of the phones, the HTC Desire is meant to compete directly with the Nexus one. It is an Android 2.1, and has a 1GHz CPU (Snapdragon), 576 MB of Ram, and a 5 MegaPixel Camera. Connectivity wise, the phone is carrying GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and runs 3G. It has a great looking 3.7 inch screen with 480×800 resolution, and Multitouch is supported (Thank god).

2 things make this phone different than the Nexus One, Lack of trackball, and HTC’s Sense UI. Sense UI is HTC’s overlay for Android phones, that tweaks the User Interface, and has been reported as a “stability enhancer” on the Hero. Some folks who were able to try out the HTC Desire were a bit disappointed as to the speed of the device, saying they thought that it would be much faster. Still, in the realm of Androids, the HTC Desire is still one of the top phones out there.

Microsoft Announces Windows Mobile 7

Windows Mobile 7

Today, at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, announced and outlined Windows Mobile 7. Here is a Demo.

One of the biggest features they were announcing was how the phone will integrate with other Microsoft products, such as xbox 360, and the Zune. The user interface closely resembles a Zune, which was to be expected thanks to rumors Circling, that Microsoft would release a “Zune-Phone”.

As for search capability, there is a dedicated hardware button on the phone that allows you to search Bing. That is a nice feature, definatly taking its cues from the Nexus One. The only difference is, well its bing. Did you know that BING stands for But It’s Not Google. Ok, Just kidding.

There are significant amounts of Social integration into the phone. You can post your status update once inside the phone, and it will link to all your status updates (Facebook, Twitter, Etc.). This is definitely a step in the right direction for Microsoft.

Personally, I have had several Windows Mobile phones, and have yet to be impressed. If the phone is released, and actually does all the things it says it does, and is stable, I may look at it. However, I would probably wait until after the first set up updates or revisions come out, just for safety sake.

Windows Phone 7 devices will be on the market before the 2010 holiday season. Hardware partners include Qualcomm, LG, Samsung, HP, HTC, Toshiba, Garmin Asus, Sony Ericsson, and Dell. Carriers that will offer Windows Phone 7 devices include AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, Orange, Telefonica, and Telstra.

Google and HTC to release IPad Rival running Android

The Google Tablet? Thank God!

So, as I was getting ready for bed tonight I prayed my bedtime prayers. I said “God, you know how we all feel about this crappy Ipad, thingy. God, if you could, please inspire someone to make a better E-Reader/ Tablet, and if you could, please make it run Android.” Well it appears God answers all prayers. Apparently HTC and Google are planning to make an Ipad rival in the coming months. HTC and Google have been working closely on touch screen projects for the last several months. Rumor has it that they are planning to release this product in short order. According to reports they already have several versions of a prototype that were shown privately to core customers at CES. The prototype apparently is running a new Qualcomm processor, and will feature new software from Adobe.
