Catching Up

Wow, so its been a few months and I hope you are all doing well. So much has happened in such a short time, the Ipad wasn’t as much of a flop as much of the internet (myself included) thought, the Iphone 4g gets leaked by our friends over at gizmodo, an oil spill.

So I got to play with the Ipad for a few hours the other day and I have to say I am considering purchasing one. I messed around with it the day it came out and I thought it was cool, I have to say the product is growing on me as more apps become available. Ive been doing a bunch of work interacting with customers lately and I was sitting thinking “Man it would be great if I had an Ipad to take my notes with”. For those of you who don’t know me, my handwriting is atrocious. In fact it is so bad that it actually has been questioned if I was writing english text, or possibly hieroglyphics. So there I was Ipad in hand and I started messing with the Notepad program, and I have to say it wasn’t half bad. I could actually get used to it and I think it would increase my note takeing by atleast +5 (Chance to crit increased by 10).

Some of the other things I have been toying around with is some new 3d TV stuff and OMFG has anyone seen the new Samsung 55 inch 3D LED-LCD HDTV 1080P. Holy freakin crap.  The Picture on it is beyond sweet. Then again for the $6,299.98 Price tag that goes with it, it better be. I swear that thing is lighter than my Droid.

Speaking of Droid (Yes, here it comes Dan and Charlie), I’m so freaking ticked off that this thing right now I can’t even see straight. Since applying the new update there has been nothing but issues (but hey, we’ve got multitouch and a better picture gallery). From the slider to answer the phone’s image being SIDEWAYS (um, hello), to just overall decreased speed and reliability issues. I’m a little bit upset. I love the android platform, and everything Google touches is gold. However, there needs to be some new fixes from Google on some of this stuff. As difficult as it is for me to say, I am planning on getting the new Iphone 4G when it comes out next month (Yes, Steve Jobs….We Know.).  Android will always hold a special place in my heart, but that new Iphone is gonna be sick! (Check back in a few days for a write up on that new little toy).

Multitouch and more comes to Nexus One in Update today

Nexus One

Nexus One Gets an Update

Google has released an update for the Nexus One that will fix a connectivity problem and adds support for multitouch. After recieving hundreds of messages in a support forum about trouble with 3G connections, Google has Identified the issue and delievered a fix.

This update also adds the first applications to support multitouch functionality. The browser, picture gallery and maps programs will now support pinch to zoom. This has been a feature asked for by many many people since the release of the Nexus One. Recent versions of Android OS have included Multitouch, however no phone in the U.S. has yet to support it.
This update also adds the Google Goggles application, where by you can take a picture of an object and search for it online, very accuratley I might add. Google is also adding Night Mode to Google Maps, this will make it easier to read at night. Google said that the update may take until the end of the week to reach all Nexus One users.

Apples New A4 Processor

apple Ipad a4 chipIt’s called the A4, and the most obvious difference with the chip in the iPhone 3GS, and that of the Ipad is speed. The iPad’s chip runs at 1GHz,Whereas the Iphone 3gs runs at about 600MHz (0.6GHz). At the Apple event in San Francisco on Wednesday, the A4 was said to be “the most advanced chip that apple has done yet”. It adds speed yes, but even more important is the fact that it does so, while keeping power a factor. The A4 chip is so efficient that the Ipad is expected to get up to 10 hours of use on a single charge. The A4 is a system on a chip or SOC. This means it integrates the main processor, graphics chip and other functions (memory controller, Etc.) on one piece of silicon. It is a similar SOC chip structure to what is currently being used in the Iphone, Nexus One and my beloved Motorola Droid. Currently chip maker Intel is working on creating a similar chip with their “Moorestown” Atom processor project.
