WANTED: Autonomous, grenade-wielding robot

Cue famous Terminator theme. For those of you out there worried about robots controlling the world, your fears have been confirmed. DARPA has just listed a new interesting posting. The post calls for research for a program called ARM (skynet, lol), and the building of a robot that can “hold a grenade in one hand, and pull the pin with the other hand autonomously”. Now if this was for a new Roomba, it wouldn’t have caused alarm. However, this is the way military applications for robotics in the future are going to be heading.

Meet talon. The US Army is now employing 100 TALON robots equipped with chemical, gas, temperature, and radiation sensors for deployment in Iraq.

Windows 7 Reaches 10 Percent Market Share

Microsoft Windows 7

You have to admit, Windows 7 is alot better than Vista. Then again, a root canal may be better than vista. It seems that the market also would agree with that statement. According to initial sales numbers, Windows 7 has taken 10% market share. That being said that also makes it one of the most successful Microsoft OS products to date. This is only after the 90 day review of sales numbers, and the forecast looks bright.

Windows 7 is much faster, less annoyance (Approve or deny?, Approve or deny?, Approve or deny?), and more compatible than its predecessor. It also comes with IE8, which is a far cry from the Dreaded IE6 (Cue dirge music). I personally have it on one of my desktops in my home, and its pretty stable thus far. I also like the look of it better. I have heard that it is causing battery issues on some laptops, but I have not seen that first hand.
