Hitachi CTO says Solid-State disks may replace regular Harddrives

Hitachi’s CTO, Hu Yoshida, says that Solid-State drives may someday replace regular hard drives. Personally, I say, Duh. It is unfortunate that flash based memory is still to expensive to be the primary storage technology in the data center. Think about it, Standard hard drives are really the only “mechanical” High Tech left. As always, birds will fly, fish will swim and anything with moving parts is doomed to failure. This Technology will help the stress levels of many a small business owner and corporate IT guy alike. Not to mention the user experience, Solid state drives are 10x – 17x faster than standard drives.
I cannot wait to finally be able to buy a 1tb solid state for $200, but that is at least 3 years out. So for now ill just have to wait.

Interactive 360 views of Haiti Earthquake Damage

Technology brings some amazing possibilities, like the ability to feel a small portion of the pain felt by those affected by the earthquake in Haiti. I was looking on Mashable and found a post that had some rather disturbing footage that I want to share with you.

What your looking at is a 360 panoramic video of the devastation in Haiti. This technology I think is needed for everyday use such as finding somewhere you’ve never been before, but also for news. I believe this helps us know whats going on in the world, but more importantly its a reminder of how fortunate we are. Right now there are many folks in need, and I think that those of us who can do something should. Like using other great technologies, I don’t know, like THE INTERNET, to raise funds and donate to help. I think this is where technology is most important, in doing good and making lives easier and staying connected.

If you can please donate to the Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund By Clicking Here.

The Tesla Roadster

OK my little Nerdlings, Today we are gonna talk about needs. See every man has needs, and one of them is a kick-ass electric car that will go 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. Not to mention looking as sexy as a Ferrari, and going 244 miles on a single charge.

This car is ridiculous. Tesla Motors has really created something truly spectacular in the way of electric cars. You charge your Tesla Roadster the same way you charge your cell phone (read this: your droid). You plug it into a wall socket whenever convenient.  The charger is built into the car, integrated into the powertrain. Conventional 120-volt outlets or 240-volt outlets that your dryer uses.

Unlike a gas engine, that has very little torque at low RPM’s , you get the 100% of the torque 100% of the time. This makes the Tesla Roadster six times as efficient as the best sports cars while producing one-tenth of the pollution. How powerful is the acceleration? A quick story to illustrate. A favorite trick  at Tesla Motors is to invite a passenger along and ask him to turn on the radio. At the precise moment we ask, we accelerate. Our passenger simply can’t sit forward enough to reach the dials. But who needs music when you’re experiencing such a symphony of motion.

So, like I was saying. Needs, and I need a Tesla Roadster.
